Sétimo (Seventh)

Sétimo (Seventh) is an esplanade that opened recently near the famous roundabout of Marquês de Pombal. For me, the best thing about it was its transparency. Few are the cafés that display their prices online (at least in Portugal), plus, the menu has a nice layout spiced up with a hint of humor. I am convinced.

For one euro you get a huge galão (coffee with milk). They don't have croissants on week days (people don't ask so much for them so they avoid the food waste). They have a toast + tea menu for 1.50€ and even made a personal recommendation of red tea instead of the one we were going to chose (and if we didn't like it we wouldn't pay).

There is no big view from this spot, buildings and street, but behind us the big Eduardo VII garden extends itself through the hill.

Miradouro de Monte Agudo

There is a little hidden place in Lisbon which looks like a private place for nearby locals. This little gem is different from other sightseeing places in terms of environment, food, and personality of the booth owner, a very suis generis person.

This is clearly a more underground kiosk, I love to drink Capilé (yellow syrup mixed with water, same base as coke, but with lemon and maidenhair fern essence) and Groselha (red currant syrup with water). Both for 1.30€.

The music comes from the owner's computer, mantra like music or the old classics, it depends. And to complete the zen arrangement, you can lay down with your head on a pillow and look at the tree branches with sky and sun piercing between them.

Open from 11:30h to sunset, everyday (if I am not mistaken).

Grande Lata

Grande Lata (Big Can) is a portuguese expression that we use when we think something is unfair or it is demanding too much. For example, you arrive on time to an interview and your friend arrives 1 hour late, but he goes in first because he is a friend of the dentist. You have the right to exclaim: grande (or "granda") lata!

This place has big BIG ham and cheese toast for 3.25€ (and for two people it's enough). It is kind of a  café/roulotte near the river and the Electricity Museum, nothing "out of this world" but good to put the conversation up to date, and common: the river, a cheap toast, good company, café au lait and a walk through Belém, one of the most beautiful places in Lisbon. Sounds good to me.
